Drama Desk 8, Tony 2

With the two measly Tony nominations for Addams Family, the eight Drama Desk nominations look just fine to the producers, I’m sure. I have them listed below.
It’s curious to me how two such well-established awards could have such drastically different outcomes. La Cage Aux Folles led the musicals in Tony noms (11) but actually had one fewer Drama Desk nom than Addams Family.
Anyone care to comment?

The Drama Desk — an award and an ashtray. How practical!
I know why La Cage didn’t do as well at DD. Not as many QUEENS there!
The DD is usually a predictor of Tony wins. Not this year. Why are they so varied? I just don’t know.
This is what passes for humor on those catty, shrill broadwayworld blogs these days. Still AFM grosses $1.3M per week. Crying all the way to the bank.

Overheard at Addams Family

Scene: A very large party of kids, age roughly 12-16, and several adult chaperones, slowly trickling out of a performance of Addams Family.
Kid (to adult male): Did you like it?
Adult male (thoughtfully): No… the comedy wasn’t funny. (pause) And the music wasn’t very interesting… or memorable. (pause) The show we saw last year was better.
Kid: Shrek?
Adult male: Mm-hmm…

What is Mr. BWW’s point? That Shrek, as bad as it was, was better than Addams Family. Or that the Dad was too ignorant to know that Addams Family is way better than that gawdawful Shrek. And if Mr. BWW is so down on the Addams Family, why was he lurking around the theater or (GASP) actually attending a performance. Crush on Nathan, mebbe?
Or was it a crush on WESLEY?
